Jailed for nine years for false imprisonment

Ciaran Noonan, aged 29, had owed Mark Allen, aged 36, drugs money and had been put under pressure in the months before the attack.

The court heard children had been playing in the Russell Avenue area of East Wall when a gang of men jumped out of Allen’s car and attacked Mr Noonan.

These witnesses described how Mr Noonan was beaten with a crowbar, kicked in the face, and dragged into the car.

Allen, of Mulhuddart, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to falsely imprisoning Mr Noonan in Dublin on October 20, 2011.

Brendan Grehan, prosecuting, reminded the court Allen was not being charged with Mr Noonan’s death.

Mr Noonan’s mother, Geraldine, described an “eldest son who was very loving and giving”.
