The HSE has moved to address claims that pregnancy counsellors are giving inappropriate information on how to get the abortion pill.

The health authority has clarified, through training workshops for counsellors, that if a client asks about the pill they should state it is illegal to purchase medicines online.

The action was taken by the HSE Crisis Pregnancy Programme after an independent audit was undertaken in response to allegations that women were told how to get the pill.
