Most regret drunken sex after office party

More than a third of Irish workers admit that drunken antics at the staff Christmas party have led to a sexual encounter — which most regretted.

In a survey of more than 1,800 employees by Peninsula Ireland, 33% said that they had met their current partner at the work Christmas party.

Almost 40% admitted that drunken antics at the party led to a sexual encounter with a colleague, which 68% regretted afterwards.

Peninsula managing director Alan Price said: “This Christmas you may get the best present you could dream of, your future partner.

“However, if it goes wrong, both employers and employees will be facing an embarrassing headache, especially awkward when employees have to work with each other.

“When alcohol is involved, employees and managers tend to speak their mind and it can all go terribly wrong when home truths are revealed.”

Mr Price said employers need to make it clear to workers that any Christmas party shenanigans do not impact the performance of the business.

“However, the Christmas party may well be a great opportunity for employees who do not normally socialise to get to know their colleagues better and you never know, love may well blossom.”
