Free haircuts and hugs for people in need
Fed up with the almost constant narrative of doom and gloom, Cork-based event manager Edelle Notte decided to banish the negativity by launching her ‘Happy’ initiative.
Edelle has devised a series of monthly events she hopes will put a smile on people’s faces and a spring in their step, and hosted her first event in Joseph’s Hair Salon in Glasheen, on the southside of Cork City yesterday afternoon.
Five stylists volunteered their time to work with clients identified by local charities Penny Dinners, Dress For Success, and Simon.
Those who attended enjoyed a free wash, cut, and blow-dry, as well as a head massage.
Volunteers wearing yellow T-shirts emblazoned with a smiley face logo gave out free smiley face stickers and free food, and magician Gerard Kearney wove his spell in the room.
Edelle said the day was filled with music and positivity which left people feeling uplifted and happier.
“It was a real feelgood day and a huge success,” she said.
“We gave people a free wash, cut, and blowdry. We were giving out free hugs and positive affirmations.
“This is the first of many. I have many more planned over the next few months.”
