Business leaders in Cork have warned a government minister to follow up on a pledge to tackle the insurance industry after insurance companies claimed planned flood defences in the city were not adequate.

The industry strongly implied that flood cover would not be reactivated in certain areas.

The Cork Business Association recently met junior minister Simon Harris, who has special responsibility for the OPW, to discuss the situation which left hundreds of local businesses and houseowners without sufficient cover since major flood events in 2009 and 2012.
