A young man who was determined to be a drug- dealer despite being offered help to turn his life around, was caught storing €47,000 worth of cannabis in a bin bag at the rear of his house.

Michael O’Donoghue of Waggot’s Lane, Cork, was sentenced to eight years in prison by Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. The judge refused to suspend it on the basis there was no point in putting O’Donoghue under probation service super-vision as he previously ignored their efforts to help.

Det Garda James O’Reilly said that on March 2, 2012, Sgt Gerry Jeremy Murphy obtained a warrant to search the home of O’Donoghue.
