A 24-year-old woman who as a school girl sustained a severe head injury when she fell out of the back window of a school bus has settled her High Court action for €1.78m.

Bernadette Nicholson was 10 years of age when the accident happened as she and three school friends fell through the rear window of a bus bringing them home from school near Milltown, Co Galway.

The judge said the young woman who is studying business at third level had made a remarkable recovery.

He found Bus Éireann fully responsible and also imposed a fine on the company.
