GSOC probes 16 formal complaints against gardaí

The Garda Ombudsman has confirmed that it is investigating 16 formal complaints against gardaí relating to water charge protests, including claims of physical assault and neglect of duty.

Most of the incidents are alleged to have occurred in north Dublin in the last two months at water charge protests and at people’s homes where water meters were being installed.

Some of the complaints include alleged assault, which means they are categorised as “criminal investigations” while most of the others fall into the category of alleged “abuse of authority”.
