A teenager suffering from cancer has been named Ireland’s young carer of the year at an awards ceremony yesterday.

Seventeen-year-old Jamie Mooney, from Shankill, Co Dublin was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma a few months ago and is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy.

Despite this, he continues to care for his mother, Sabrina, who was diagnosed with epilepsy shortly after Jamie was born.
