Latvian man in court over car-jacking

A Latvian man charged in connection with a car-jacking has been remanded in custody.

Janis Zarans, aged 29, from 15 Weaver’s Hall, Market Square, Longford, did not apply for bail when he appeared before Harristown District Court in Roscommon yesterday.

Zarans is charged with the false imprisonment of Sabrina Cence at Heaton’s Car Park, Townspark, Longford, on October 29.

He did not speak during the brief hearing in the court, adjacent to Castlerea Prison.

Inspector Ollie Baker applied for Zarans to be remanded in custody to Harristown District Court on November 28.
