Residents of Sherkin Island, just across from the fishing village of Baltimore in West Cork, enjoyed the warmest weather in the country last month.

The 4.8km-long tourist retreat, with a population of around 100, experienced an average daily temperature of 12C during October.

However, Met Éireann yesterday reported it was “wet and warm” in many locations last month.
