Kerry football star Paul Galvin has said the incident where he accidently hit a student with a duster while teaching was "irresponsible" and damaged his reputation.

In an exclusive extract from his autobiography, Paul Galvin: In my Own Words, in today’s Irish Examiner, the former Kerry captain said he was deeply sorry for the incident, which happened in 2010 while he was teaching in St Brendan’s College in Killarney, and that the subsequent media coverage cost him in terms of his reputation.

In April last year, it was reported that Galvin and the board of management at the school paid €8,000 to the pupil, who sued them jointly after the incident.
