The Major winner has teamed up with fellow professionals Keegan Bradley and Freddie Jacobson, in “putting” their names to a new venture, GolfBeer Brewing Co, in the US.
The PGA Tour players hope thirsty golfers will enjoy sinking their signature craft beers: G-Mac’s Celtic Style Pale Ale; Bradley’s New England Style Lager, and Jacobson’s Scandinavian Style Blonde Ale.
The brewing venture is the first time professional golfers have started their own beer company.
Their “easy drinking” ales and lagers have been created in association with Florida brewing company The Brew Hub, and are available on draft this month at a number of golf clubs, bars and restaurants in Florida.
Cans and bottles of the beers, which are between 4.5% and 5% in volume, will go on sale next year along with wider regional distribution.
The idea for the golfers’ brewery came from Sweden-born Jacobson, 40, who approached fellow beer lovers, Antrim-born McDowell, 35, and Bradley, 28, from Vermont, US, to join him in the venture.
“For me as a golfer and a restaurant owner, GolfBeer is the perfect marriage, bringing together two of my favourite things,” said McDowell.
Jacobson added: “Together we created refreshing and drinkable craft beers you can enjoy whether you are on the course, at the 19th hole with friends or at home watching a tournament on television.”
