One-legged man’s time to prepare

A criminal with one leg who was jailed yesterday at Limerick Circuit Court was given a week to prepare for his medical needs behind bars, before starting a two- year sentence.

One-legged man’s time to prepare

Vincent Leamy, aged 42, of Pineview Gardens, Moyross, stabbed a man at a New Year’s Eve party, the court heard. His victim went to bed after the attack, not realising his injury included a knife wound to the liver.

Sentence had been adjourned to see how Leamy behaved, and the court heard he has been in trouble with the law since the attack and was due in court on drug-dealing charges.

Leamy went to a house party in Castleconnell on December 31, 2011, and brought drink with him.

A row broke out and he inflicted multiple stab wounds on his victim.

John O’Sullivan, prosecuting, said there was a significant amount of drink involved. The injured man went to bed and it was only when he was awakened the following morning that the extent of his injuries became apparent.

Jailing Leamy for three years, with one year suspended, Judge Carroll Moran said the victim and Leamy were lucky the outcome of the attack was not more serious.
