Around 11,000 three-year olds in Ireland have at least one serious long-standing health condition.

According to a new report from the Institute of Public Health in Ireland, a long-standing health condition is defined as a condition that “has troubled [the] child over a period of time or that is likely to affect [the] child over a period of time”.

The report, which is funded by the Department of Health and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, found that the prevalence of such conditions was higher among boys and children from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
