Forty-six death threats were made to women directly supported by Women’s Aid in 2013.

Their figures show that 33 pregnant women were assaulted by current or former partners. The domestic violence support agency said the number of physical assaults on the 327 women it supports was “worryingly high,” with 261 crimes.

This included 22 cases where women were assaulted with weapons. And, of the 33 pregnant women assaulted, a number suffered miscarriages as a result.

The 2013 annual report of Women’s Aid also revealed:

-46 deaths threats made against the women;

It said the 528 support visits with the 327 women disclosed 1,121 incidents of abuse, including 438 cases of emotional abuse and 137 of financial abuse.

In 63% of cases, the perpetrator was a current partner and in 29% of cases a former partner.

The report showed that nearly 60% had been abused for longer than six years, including 15% who had suffered for more than 21 years.

Separate figures, relating to the agency’s helpline, highlighted almost 18,000 cases of abuse from callers in 2013.
