The “sold” notice across the auctioneer’s sign has gone up on the stone wall outside the house — Castledale, at Carraroe on the edge of Sligo town.

The house, built in 2004, was sold for below the €1m the receiver was originally seeking.

Auctioneer David Reynolds of Gunne Sligo said: “It has gone for well over €800,000 but a bit below the €899,000 that was the last listed price.”

He added that he was not free to give details of the new owner who lived overseas.

“The contracts have been signed and the sale should be closed within days. Anybody buying that house could be described as high profile. It’s still a big price to pay for a house in Sligo,” he said.

Five acres of gardens are included in the sale.

At one stage while the former Westlife star still lived in the house, he turned down an overseas offer of €10m. It was put up for sale following a creditors’ meeting when it was revealed the singer had debts of €23m.

Filan, who declared bankruptcy in the UK, lives with his wife Gillian and their three children in a £2.2m house in Surrey.

In April 2013, two of his properties were auctioned. A derelict period house with 146 acres of farming land near Dromahair, Co Leitrim, fetched €910,000 — about 10% below what Filan paid for it. Another 3.6 acres at Carraroe fetched €50,000.

The singer exited bankruptcy last year.
