US firm offers €190m to lease full landfill

An American company has offered Limerick City and County Council what has been described as the deal of a lifetime to open a full-up landfill site in West Limerick to dispose of old car tyres and other waste.

The council has been offered a €190m lease to allow the company take over the old Gortadroma landfill site in west Limerick for the next 30 years.

The company says up to 200 full-time jobs will be created.
