The TourdeForce will cycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles — a trek of 610km — in aid of LauraLynn, Headway Ireland and Age Action.

The cycle will take place on October 10.

The event was launched at the German embassy yesterday, given its main sponsor is DB Schenker — the transportation and logistics activities of German railway company Deutsche Bahn.

TourdeForce comprises gardaí and friends who cycle annually to raise funds for Irish and international charities.

TourdeForce was born in 1991, when gardaí first cycled to Ashford in Co Wicklow to raise money for The Holy Angels Infant Intensive Care Unit, Coombe Hospital, Dublin.

Two members of the group, Inspector Deirdre Gill and Detective Sergeant Adrian Whitelaw were honoured last April by the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors for their work.
