It is alleged that the complainant was robbed at South Mall, Cork, on her way to the bus station at 5.30am on Monday, September 8.

At Cork District Court yesterday, Garda Anne Flynn gave evidence yesterday of arresting two people and charging them with robbery from the person.

Christopher Kenneally and Emma Crowley were both charged that on September 8, at South Mall, Cork, they robbed Marion Tafoiry of a Samsung mobile phone valued €300.

Their cases were adjourned by Judge Con O’Leary, on the application of Inspector Mary King, until October 8 to allow time for the prosecution to obtain directions from the DPP.

Mr Kenneally, aged 25, of Waterhouse, Buttevant, Co Cork, replied: “I don’t agree with it,” when he was charged.

Ms Crowley, aged 24, of 47A Ardcullen, Hollyhill, Cork, replied “OK” when she was charged with the same offence.

There was no prosecution objection to the two people being given bail. However, one of their bail conditions effectively bans them from Cork City.

Each defendant must abstain from intoxicants; stay out of Cork City unless for medical and legal appointments; sign three times a week at their local Garda station; and keep a curfew to be home each night between 10pm and 8am.

The judge warned them that if he was given evidence of them not answering the door to gardaí, he would take the view that they were not home and therefore in breach of bail.

Both defendants are unemployed. Solicitors, Frank Buttimer and Emmet Boyle, were appointed to represent Mr Kenneally and Ms Crowley respectively, on free legal aid.
