Oktoberfest about to hit Waterford

The Oktoberfest taste of Bavarian culture, which has proved so popular in Cork in the past couple of years, is about to hit Waterford.

The festival, which attracts around 10,000 visitors to Cork every year, is exporting it brat wurst, schweinsbraten and pretzels into The Deise.

Many people aspire to take a trip to Munich at least once in their lifetime for a celebration of all things Bavarian. It was with that in mind that event organiser Daryl Cronin decided to bring a taste of Munich to Waterford from September 25 to 28.

After the event closes in Cork on September 20, preparations will be put in place for the Waterford venue at the Bolton Street Car Park.

A Bavarian village, like the marquee representative of that in the Oktoberfest in Munich, as well as authentic Oktoberfest Fräuleins serving the finest of traditional Bavarian dishes will form part of the über fun, food and entertainment.

Festivities will swing into action between 4pm and 10.30pm from Thursday to Sunday, with special guest performances each evening by the famous Edelweiss Oompah Brass Band.

Mr Cronin said: “We are delighted to have expanded into Waterford, and watch this space as we just might be making our way to Galway also.”
