Ireland is set for a final burst of glorious prolonged sunshine, with weather experts predicting that the rain and drizzle will give way this weekend to a two-week Indian summer.

Forecasters said mercury levels will start to climb again on Sunday, as high pressure builds across the country and triggers an extended period of fine, summery weather from the start of the meteorological autumn season.

James Madden, meteorologist with Exacta Weather, said most parts of Ireland can look forward to basking one final time this year in temperatures as high as the mid-20s.
