Philomena to address adoption conference

Philomena Lee, whose life story inspired the Oscar-nominated film, Philomena, will be one of the main speakers at a two-day adoption conference in UCC on September 4 and 5.

The conference, which is supported by the Irish Research Council, is a joint venture between the School of Applied Social Studies and the Faculty of Law at the university and aims to explore the opportunities and challenges in Irish adoption.

Adoption law and practice in Ireland has been undergoing a significant period of transition in recent years, particularly with the onset of the children’s rights movement.
