Cork-born Sinead McSweeney, the online social network’s director of public policy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will speak at the September Women in Tech event organised by it@cork European Tech Cluster in association with Cork City Council.
Ms McSweeney will discuss her role at the global social media company, and her career path, which has included roles such as director of communications for An Garda Síochána, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
“Increasing the visibility of talented, experienced women in the ICT sector in Ireland is a key objective of the it@cork Women in Tech event series,” said Ruth Buckley, head of ICT and business services at the city council.
“Highlighting the success of our colleagues in roles in IT, science and engineering is vital to empower women in business and to ensure a pipeline of female graduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to meet the opportunity to create successful careers in these exciting sectors.”
The Women in Tech series was recently shortlisted by Chambers Ireland for an Excellence in Local Government Award. The nomination recognised the important contribution it has made towards supporting women in STEM.
“We are very committed to highlighting the success of our female leaders in the tech sector in Ireland,” said Denis Collins, the chairman of it@cork European Tech Cluster.
The September conference will take place at lunchtime on September 10 in the KBC bank boardroom at 4 Lapps Quay, in Cork.
