Several European Parliament and Dáil candidates face being referred to gardaí and the Director of Public Prosecutions for failing to reveal their election expenses.

Legal threat for candidates who failed to reveal expenses

The Standards in Public Office Commission has confirmed that five European candidates and three Dáil candidates who ran in May have failed to file their election costs.

Candidates are required to submit statements about their election campaign expenses to SIPO, whether they are elected or not.
