Nursing home extension creates 30 jobs

The 24-bed extension at Brídhaven nursing home in Mallow, in north Cork, has brought the facility’s bed capacity up to 163, with 180 people now employed there across a range of disciplines.

Junior minister Kathleen Lynch, who has responsibility for disability, older people, equality, and mental health, said the facility was a wonderful example to the industry.

“I cannot emphasise enough the importance of maintaining quality care standards for older people and I wish to use this opportunity to encourage other facilities to grow their businesses, as I believe that, with quality care comes business, and ultimately more jobs are created,” said Ms Lynch.

Established in 1989, Brídhaven was bought by Paul and MaryClare Rochford in 2004. Their facility offers short-term, convalescent, and long-term care, as well as services to people with dementia, and those with an acquired brain injury. The home has won several quality awards including the prestigious Joint Commission International Long Term Care Standard — the first nursing home outside of the US to achieve this standard.

It went on to became the first nursing home in the UK and Ireland to hold, at the same time, three prestigious ISO excellence awards

Mr Rochford, said: “We strive to create a culture of transparency and openness to learning and clinical development at every juncture.”
