Gardaí quiz 20 people over GAA match brawl

Gardaí have interviewed more than 20 people as part of their investigation into a mass brawl at a GAA underage hurling match, which resulted in three young men receiving hospital treatment.

The Rebel Óg U-16 championship match had to be abandoned last month after witnesses said “an appalling free-for-all” broke out just after the start of the second half.

The scores were tied between Cork City northside-based St Vincent’s and Valley Rovers, from the Innishannon, when chaos broke out. It’s alleged that an on-the-pitch incident led to the intervention of an adult spectator and this quickly escalated into a major brawl involving both adults and teenagers.
