Fassbender tweets support for inspiring cancer video

Darren Mullery wants the video to give hope to fellow cancer victims, saying if it gives someone the strength to get out of bed for even one extra day and fight on it will have been worth the effort. From Ardfert, Co Kerry, he was diagnosed last August, at a time when his wife, Danielle Faulconbridge, was pregnant with their daughter, Noelle, now seven months.

Darren is receiving ongoing treatment for pancreatic cancer and his message to others is: "It’s important not to let cancer take over your life." The three-minute video, Fighting Cancer Darren’s Way, was made by his friends in Tralee Musical Society. It has been viewed by people all over the world, including Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender who tweeted a message of support.

Rebecca Roche, of Tralee Musical Society, said the three-minute production was making an impact and was clearly helping people battling cancer.

“The main thing is that it’s giving hope to other people,’’ she said.

A benefit night to coincide with Darren’s 40th birthday will be held in the Carlton Hotel, Tralee, on Sunday to raise funds to buy a car for the Mullery family who live about 10km from Kerry General Hospital, Tralee.

The popular Midnight Café band will provide live music. Tickets cost €10.
