Cheating and giving false information was "endemic" in planning during the boom time in Co Kerry — a county that now has thousands of empty one-off houses, An Taisce has said.

Landscaping conditions attached to planning permissions given were intended to screen the plethora of houses that have been built in the countryside, but have been regularly ignored, the heritage body also told the council.

False information has been given to get planning, and conditions such as permanent occupancy ignored, the heritage body stated bluntly.
