Hurler on steroids and drink viciously attacked girlfriend

Bodybuilding steroids mixed with alcohol triggered a formerly successful young hurler to launch a violent attack on his girlfriend when he kidnapped and terrified her at his home.

Shane Green, aged 22, of the Bungalow, Kilcully, Co Cork, was jailed for five years, with the last two years suspended, for kidnapping Amy Deedy on January 24 and assault causing harm to her in the course of an ordeal that lasted hours. The sentence also covered his assault on another woman who tried to assist the victim.

Garda Brian Murphy said Green and Ms Deedy had been out together on the night of January 24 but, after an argument, had gone back to his home separately.
