Former Anglo Irish Bank chairman Sean FitzPatrick has gone to the High Court in a bid to overturn a ruling that he is not entitled to the costs of defending himself in the recent Anglo trial.

Yesterday, Mr FitzPatrick mounted a legal challenge against a circuit court ruling he cannot have the costs of the 48 day trial.

Earlier this year Mr FitzPatrick, aged 66, of Greystones, Co Wicklow, was acquitted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of all counts of providing unlawful financial assistance to 10 individuals, known as the Maple 10, in July 2008 to buy shares in the bank, contrary to section 60 of the Companies Act.
