Pat O’Brien, who runs O’Brien Office Systems, has been appointed district governor of Lions International Ireland.
He has replaced Liam Lyons from Thurles as head of an organisation which boasts 111 clubs nationwide and 2,495 members.
A native of Tramore, Co Waterford, Mr O’Brien has lived in Cork for many years and the former chairman of the city’s jazz festival is synonymous with charity work.
Following his appointment, which he described as “truly humbling,” Mr O’Brien said: “By increasing our membership we will put ourselves in a strong position to deal with a host of problems which face our communities,”
The Lions are known for a host of charitable endeavours both at home and abroad. In Ireland, they include a Christmas Food Appeal, Medic Alert and Suicide Aware programmes.
