Cork to host first maritime forum

Cork will host the first-ever forum to discuss opportunities to develop business in the maritime sector.

The Port of Cork has announced details of the Irish Maritime Forum in Cork City Hall on September 26. It will focus developing a dynamic future for the country’s maritime industry.

The forum will feature guest speakers from both Ireland and abroad. They include Joachim Coens, president of Port of Zeebrugge; Capt Fredrik Van Wijnen, general secretary of the Confederation of European Shipmasters’ Associations (CESMA); Isabelle Ryckbost, secretary general of the European Sea Ports Organisation, and Christophe Mathieu, deputy managing director of Brittany Ferries.

Port of Cork chairman John Mullins said the forum would be a unique event as it would attract representatives from the entire maritime industry in Ireland.

“The theme ‘Developing the Dynamic future of Ireland’s Maritime Industry’ is aimed at everyone within the maritime sector, from ports, ship-owners and operators, shipping lines, stevedores, plus maritime associations such as the Irish Institute of Master Mariners and the Chamber of Irish Shipping to name a few,” Mr Mullins said.

He said the Port of Cork is honoured to be hosting the forum and hopes that delegates will benefit from attending it and also enjoying Cork City and its many attractions.
