Alleged assaults on staff are continuing at a hospital’s mental health unit, with 11 incidents in June, the Psychiatric Nurses’ Association (PNA) have claimed.

The situation at the acute psychiatric unit at Kerry General Hospital (KGH) in Tralee was also highlighted in the Dáil earlier this week, amid claims that serious staff shortages are at the root of problems.

Further incidents have occurred since an inspector from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) visited the unit on June 23, at the request of the PNA.
