Firefighters attacked by gang of youths at illegal bonfire

Firefighters responding to an illegal bonfire on the northside of Cork City were besieged last night by youths armed with stones, bricks and bottles.

During the attack, the windscreen of a fire tender was smashed in.

The incident occurred in Upper Fairfield, Farranree, as bonfire night, the traditional celebration to mark St John’s Eve, got under way.
