Women not seeking mental health care for fear kids will be taken away, seminar hears

Some women are afraid to seek help over mental health issues over fears their children may be taken away from them.

A seminar organised by Barnardos held in Dublin today on mental health issues in families, also highlighted an over-reliance on medication as a means of dealing with mental health problems.

With inadequate services for women highlighted as a major concern, the seminar also heard that some mothers were afraid to seek help because they felt their children might be removed from their care.
