Shane set to finish 12th marathon in 12 days
Super-fit Shane Finn is set to complete his 12th marathon today and hopes to have reached his target of raising €20,000 to boot.
He is running in aid of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Ireland and the inspiring force is his first cousin, Mary Evans, of Celbridge, Co Kildare, who suffers from the condition.
Shane’s adventure began in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, on June 3, and will end 314.4 miles (506km) later in his native Dingle, Co Kerry, today, with the finishing line outside the WK Fitness Gym, which he has just opened with fellow west Kerry man Mark Evans.
An experienced athlete with 10 marathons under his belt, Shane trained diligently for his latest challenge, which he describes as the hardest thing he has ever done but the most exciting.
“I’m always looking to challenge myself and test my limits. To be able to raise vitally needed funds for a great charity while doing so is a dream come true,” he said.
Shane hopes to raise €30,000 by the end of the year. To donate, visit his ‘mycharity.ie’ page, and to follow his progress, visit the 12 Marathons 12 Days Facebook page, or 12marathons-12days.com.
