The dozens of teddy bears left at the gates of a Cork City mother and baby home in memory of the babies and children who died there, were moved overnight to a Little Angels’ plot within its grounds.

CEO of the Bessborough Centre, Thomas Quigley, said he thought it was more appropriate that the toys sat on a grave than outside on the main road.

Above the Little Angels’ plot, a brass plaque reads: “In remembrance of all babies who died before or shortly after birth. I gathered you all in your freshness before a single breeze had damaged your purity.”
