Defeated Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins predicted yesterday there would be a Cabinet reshuffle "sooner rather than later".

The seasoned Mayo-based politician made his assertion in the light of both Fine Gael and Labour’s disappointing showing in the local and European elections.

“I think you need the new ministers to get used to their portfolios before the summer recess in order to come back with a bang in September when the Dáil resumes,” he said.
