Limerick City West is shaping up for a tight battle for the last of the seven seats.

Former Mayor of Limerick, Maria Byrne of Fine Gael has headed the poll (tally), closely followed by Fianna Fail's James Collins. Labour's Joe Leddin is poised to win the third seat, with Sinn Fein's Malachy McCreesh set to take the fourth seat.

The fifth seat may go to Anti Austerity Alliance candidate, John Loftus and Daniel Butler, Fine Gael taking the sixth seat.

The final seventh seat will be a shake down between former detective, Sean Lynch of Fianna Fail, Tomas Hannon of Labour and Geraldine Leddin of Fianna Fail.
