Daniel O’Donnell rushes to mother’s bedside

Singer Daniel O’Donnell was at his mother’s bedside in hospital last night.

Julia O’Donnell, 94, is understood to be very ill at Dungloe Community Hospital in Co Donegal.

Her famous son, 52, had rushed home from Scotland where he was performing on Monday night to be at his mother’s bedside.

Friends of the star have been sending messages of support and prayers by Facebook.

A family friend said last night “Julia is very low at the moment but she is battling away.

“She is a great woman and has been ill many times before and pulled through.

“Everyone is just hoping and praying that she gets better once again.”

Daniel is due to play a charity concert in Dungloe this weekend and then fly to Canada for shows.

It is not known whether he will travel, due to his mother’s poor health.

Julia had been widowed by the premature death of her husband Francie more than 40 years ago and raised her five children single-handed.

In recent times, she had moved in with her daughter Kathleen in Kincasslagh. She had spent a lot of her time knitting and made gloves for Queen Elizabeth and socks for the Pope.
