The announcement of €35m for schools to carry out repairs over the summer — right before voting — has been described by Fianna Fáil as electioneering by Education Minister Ruairi Quinn.

Mr Quinn revealed details yesterday of almost 400 more primary and second- level schools due to get funding under his department’s summer works scheme — mostly for toilet facilities and roof works.

It come after a similar announcement in March of the first Round of projects to get the go-ahead for gas, electricalR or mechanical works at 386 other schools.
