Drink-drive charge struck out by judge

A charge of drink driving against a 34-year-old man who failed a breath test after drinking a gin and tonic ahead of a hospital appointment was struck out yesterday.

Eoin Twomey, of 131 Kilbrody, Mount Oval, Douglas, Cork, was pursued through Bantry by gardaí who claimed Mr Twomey made an illegal U-turn in his 08 Audi before swerving erratically and driving on the wrong side of the road at 11.20am on August 7, 2013.

Mr Twomey was on his way to Bantry Hospital for a brain scan, having been hit on the head by a sail boom in a boating accident in Schull two days earlier, Bantry District Court was told.
