The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) plans to ramp up its inspection rate in Co Cork after the county recorded the highest number of workplace deaths over last four years.

The HSA also plans to mount special safety awareness campaigns targeted at the high-risk dairy farming, fishing and construction sectors after the agency identified an alarming trend in workplace deaths in the county.

In 2012, nine people were killed in work-related accidents in Cork — five in the fishing sector, two in construction, one in agriculture and one in public administration.
