The Oireachtas has welcomed a court decision that a committee was entitled to make findings against a senator after he misrepresented his normal place of residence for expense purposes.

Former Fianna Fáil senator Ivor Callely could be facing significant costs arising out of the yesterday’s decision by the seven-judge Supreme Court.

The court found that the Seanad Committee on Members’ Interests was entitled to conclude Mr Callely had in 2008 misrepresented his normal place of residence as being in Bantry, Co Cork, rather than in Clontarf, Dublin, when claiming expenses.
