Minister warns of rail service cuts

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has warned that rail services will be cut and Government subvention diverted away from Iarnród Éireann unless a resolution is found to the dispute on cost savings at the company.

Iarnród Éireann will meet with unions at the Labour Court in the coming days, for talks on how to achieve up to €8.5m in savings.

Those discussions have been ongoing for more than a year. The company wants €4.7m of the total to come from the wage bills of the 3,800 staff.
