Dobson avoids censure over ‘idiot’ protester remark

RTÉ news anchorman Bryan Dobson has been forced to defend his position on foot of complaints over describing as “idiots” a group of protesters who appeared live on air.

Seven viewers wrote to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland to complain over remarks Mr Dobson made during a live television broadcast of the Six One News on November 27.

Mr Dobson referred to protesters, who could be seen in the background during an interview on the rise in property prices he conducted with economist Ronan Lyons, as “idiots”.
