Revellers to travel from far and wide for Indiependence festival

It’s not happening until August but already early- bird tickets are selling faster than ever for an outdoor music festival estimated to bring in €2m to a North Cork town.

Revellers to travel from far and wide for Indiependence festival

According to John Finn, one of the organisers of the Indiependence festival in Mitchelstown, tickets have already been booked from as far away as Singapore and Australia.

“We’re in our ninth year now and we get a lot of repeat business,” he said.

Some 5,000 people are expected to attend the festival from August 1 to 3 at the town’s Deer Farm, with some great acts, including local legends the Sultans of Ping. Among the other artists already confirmed are US hip-hop luminaries Public Enemy, Tom Odell, White Lies, and Fun Lovin’ Criminals.

Mr Finn said that over the years, Indiependence has been a huge supporter of Irish music and included in the line-up will be Delorentos, Damien Dempsey, and David Holmes.

Emerging Irish acts like Lisa O’Neill, The Academic, We Cut Corners, Orla Gartland, and Walking On Cars will also appear. Bands that have previously played at the event and who are coming back for more this year include Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, Chlöe Howl, and Fyfe

“Following the success of last year’s indoor arena, The Bier Halle returns with its selection of bars and great live music over the three days. Indie 14 will also bring back its Spoken Word and Comedy Stages along with the Hot Press Hot Spot and live broadcasts on site from Today FM,” Mr Finn said. He added that a second round of acts will be announced soon.

* Tickets for the event, which include three days’ camping, are €99. See indiependencefestival.com
