A group of low-paid council street and park cleaners are today ‘singing in the rain’ after fighting off attempts to abolish their €50-a-week ‘working in the rain’ allowance.

This follows the Labour Court ruling that dismissed attempts by South Dublin County Council, to have the allowance for 27 workers abolished.

Siptu industrial organiser Brendan O’Brien described the Labour Court ruling as “a significant victory”.
