Aer Lingus has significantly upped the ante in its long-running battle with the country’s largest trade union by moving to sue Siptu and its pensions policy advisor, Dermot O’Loughlin.

The airline said it lost millions of euro because of this week’s aborted strike threat by Siptu, because of the cost of contingency arrangements and cancelled bookings.

It also said it cannot run its business properly if it is confronted by continuous threats of action by Siptu as part of its pension dispute.
